WHITING, Ind. — St. Mary parishioner Caitlin McEnery, 14, won top spot in two singing competitions this winter.
On Jan. 27, she competed at the district level for the Indiana State School Music Association, where she received her first gold medal for performing “Ave Maria,” by Franz Abt. It qualified her to participate at the state level.
She traveled to Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis Feb. 17, where she competed with nearly 1,000 high school students from across the state. This time, her performance of “Ave Maria” earned her a gold medal with distinction. Currently a freshman at Whiting High School, she is the first student from her school to earn this prestigious award.
McEnery has been a member of the St. Mary Parish choir since grade 3, first under the direction of Deacon Timothy Woods and then under the current director, Bosiljka Vukobrat.
