8/6/23: I began this morning feeling at full health, with immense gratitude for Christ’s guidance. I felt like my true self again after much needed rest! I made my way throughout the city, as a true and lone pilgrim, finding the nearest Mass I could. I began walking to a church that was 5 minutes away, in extreme heat, only to find it closed! I searched the closest one to the one I initially tried, and it was a 15 minute walk. Beginning to feel my physical limitations from the very intense heat, I (providentially) stumbled upon an Uber Scooter!! I grabbed it as fast as I could, and zoomed through the streets on Lisbon. This second church happened to be closed also, but before leaving, I went around to see if there was anything happening. A priest from the US told me that their group would be celebrating the Mass in the park across the street (pictures below)! Knowing that my friends were celebrating such a Holy Sunday Mass with our Pope, I was consoled by the fact that we were united through the bread that was broken during this Mass that I was able to attend. After the Masses, the group we had traveled with began heading back to Slovakia. I miss them all so much already!
This being the last day, and knowing that there was nothing truly left to do, I began packing for the travels ahead and grabbed last minute souvenirs. I was also able to stop by a scenic area with a gorgeous view of Lisbon (pictured below), grateful for a peaceful end to a difficult but truly incredible trip.
God bless you all! I will be writing an overall reflection on my flight to share with you. Thank you once more for your prayers and love! We have needed them deeply and are immensely grateful for them!! - Gina”
