On Sunday, January 5, 2025, St. Emilian Byzantine Catholic Church in Brunswick, Ohio, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Bishop Robert Pipta led the Divine Liturgy, and the parish received a Papal Blessing, which was famed and hung in the church narthex commemorating this special occasion. After the service, parishioners enjoyed a luncheon featuring food prepared by the parish, which they typically sell to the public.
St. Emilian's journey began on January 5, 1975, when Bishop Emil J. Mihalik offered the first Divine Liturgy in the rooms of the First National Bank in Brunswick, Ohio. The parish was formed to serve Byzantine Catholics who had moved to the southwestern suburbs of Cleveland. Over the years, the community grew, and in 1999, they dedicated their current church building on Substation Road. The celebration highlighted the parish's enduring spirit and commitment to faith, community, and tradition. Parishioners reminisced about the early days, the challenges they overcame, and the many joyous occasions they have shared. Notably, several long-time parishioners, including the Washlock and Strippy families, who have been with the parish since its inception, were present, adding a special touch to the event. The celebration was a testament to the strong bonds and vibrant faith that have sustained St. Emilian for half a century.
