Basilian Sister Ann Fedyszak (formerly Sister Aloysius) died at Mount Macrina Manor Aug. 12. She would have celebrated her 65th anniversary of religious life Sept. 15.
Sister Ann was born in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of the late Elias and Anna (nee Volchko) Fedyszak. She entered the Sisters of St. Basil Sept. 15, 1954, from Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Parish in Warren. She made her final profession Aug. 21, 1960.
Sister Ann’s nearly seven decades of dedicated service included teaching for about 18 years, before being assigned to help establish the Office of Religious Education for the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, where she made a significant contribution to catechetical ministry. She then served as assistant provincial for the community.
She worked in retreat ministry for seven years, before moving to part-time ministry in both the Archeparchial Catechetical Office and at Holy Ghost Parish in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The latter developed into full-time pastoral ministry for 10 years.
In 2006, Sister Ann returned to the monastery, where she served in pastoral ministry at Mount Macrina Manor for five years. Later, as a resident at the Manor, Sister Ann ministered to others and was especially faithful in visiting community members in their final days.
Sister Ann wanted to be remembered for her deep faith. Though she could no longer pray Matins and Vespers with the community, these prayer books were her faithful companions up to her final days.
Sister Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary (DeSantis) and her brother John. She is survived by her sisters in community, her brother Joseph and her sister Sister Margaret. The Parastas was celebrated at the monastery chapel Aug. 18. Metropolitan Archbishop William C. Skurla celebrated the funeral Divine Liturgy Aug. 19. Interment followed at Mount Macrina Cemetery.
