Seven Minutes of Time with God
First 30 seconds
Take a deep breath. Remember that God, who loves you infinitely, is present with you right now. Ask Him to soothe your heart and open your spirit to His will.
Next 4 minutes
Read from the Gospels. Approach with an open heart rather than relying solely on your educational background. Focus on experiencing the personality of Christ. Instead of seeking factual information, ask yourself: "What is the nature of the God to whom I’ve devoted my life?" and "How does this speak to me today?"
Next 2 1/2 minutes- prayer
Adoration. Speak to Christ from your heart: "I love You, Christ. I want to dedicate my whole life to You." You can also read a line from a Psalm or Prayer Book that resonates with your feelings of adoration. Let your words flow naturally from the depths of your heart.
Contrition. Be specific and search your heart for the things you have done. Be brutally honest as you lay your sins before God, saying, "Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." Remember, God sees us as we are, forgives us, and loves us unconditionally.
Thanksgiving. Be specific in your gratitude. Thank Him for your family, friends, health, and the chance to share your life with Him. Reflecting on the blessings in our lives fosters a deep sense of gratitude for the many gifts and people we have been blessed with.
Supplication. Begin by praying for others, then bring your own needs to God. Often, by the time you pray for yourself, you might find yourself simply saying, "And as for me, Lord, Your will be done." This is how I always conclude my prayers. I realize how little I know about what is truly best for my life and happiness. I have found profound joy in this life with Christ, a path I might not have chosen if my plans had unfolded differently. Still, I believe God wants us to express our deepest desires to Him.
