PARMA, Ohio — A former parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Brecksville, Ohio, will be ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus, more commonly known as the Jesuits, in early summer.
Jesuit Deacon Cyril N. Pinchak will be ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 1900 Carlton Rd., June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist, at 10 a.m.
Jesuit Father Brian Paulson, provincial of the Jesuit Midwest Province, will attend. The ordaining bishop is to be announced.
A reception will follow the ordination. An RSVP is requested to ensure that there will be enough food and refreshments; call Mary Pinchak at (216) 371-3766.
Deacon Pinchak will be among the few Byzantine Catholic priests in the Society of Jesus, though he will have bi-ritual faculties and be able to celebrate in both the Latin and Byzantine rites.
He will celebrate his first Roman Catholic Mass at the Jesuit-run Church of the Gesu, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, Ohio, June 25 at 10:30 a.m.
He will celebrate his first Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy at St. Joseph Parish, 8111 Brecksville Rd., July 2 at 10 a.m.
Deacon Pinchak is expected to move to Rome a few weeks after his priestly ordination to study toward a licentiate degree in Byzantine Catholic theology at the Pontifical Oriental Institute.
