PARMA, Ohio — As part of a significant cost-cutting strategy, the chancery offices of the Eparchy of Parma moved from the cathedral complex at 1900 Carlton Road in Parma to smaller office space on the third floor of a corporate building at 5000 Rockside Road in Independence, Ohio.
The move took place at the beginning of August. The former offices at the cathedral complex are currently being used for archives and extra storage.
In a recent discussion with Horizons, Bishop Milan Lach, SJ, of Parma said the move is only for the short term until suitable space can be found in a church building owned by the eparchy.
The former office space in the cathedral complex was bigger than needed and too expensive to maintain, in particular to heat and cool, he explained. The new office space offers more natural light and better working conditions.
According to the 2016-2017 financial report of the Eparchy of Parma, published in the Sept. 30 issue of Horizons, a three-year lease, starting Aug. 1, 2018, was signed for the new office space at $3,677 per month, including water, gas and housekeeping. The move represents a cost savings of several thousand dollars per month, said Nancy Fredrick of the Finance Office.
