WARREN, Ohio — Byzantine Catholic Benedictine Sister Barbara Pavlik was appointed administrator of Queen of Heaven Monastery this past spring.
Sister Mary Bratrovsky, prioress at Sacred Heart Monastery in Lisle, Illinois, made the appointment May 29. Sister Pavlik succeeds Sister Agnes Knapik, who served as administrator for five years.
Sister Barbara celebrated her 60th jubilee of religious profession last year. She had served as prioress for two four-year terms in the past, when the Queen of Heaven Monastery was an independent monastery.
As the only Byzantine Catholic Benedictine women’s monastery in the world, they received their religious formation at Sacred Heart Monastery in Lisle, which welcomed in Byzantine Catholic sisters in order to eventually start a Byzantine Benedictine monastery.
Queen of Heaven Monastery became an independent monastery in 1969. In 1970, the sisters had a new monastery built and dedicated in Warren, Ohio.
In 2010, with only five sisters remaining, and after about five years of discernment, Queen of Heaven Monastery once again became dependent on Sacred Heart Monastery in Lisle.
The Byzantine sisters sold their monastery in 2011 and currently reside at Infant of Prague Manor, a senior independent living facility, which is operated by Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Parish in Warren, Ohio.
