DAY 1: Sun., Sept. 16 - New York/En Route
Depart from New York for your overnight trans-Atlantic flight to Vienna.
DAY 2: Mon., Sept. 17 - Vienna (D)
AM: Welcome to Vienna!
Divine Liturgy at Barbrakirche, the Byzantine Catholic parish in Vienna.
PM: Visit the Augustinian Church and Karlskirche Charles Church. See the Ringstrasse, Parliament, and the Museum Quarter.
Dinner: Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 3: Tues., Sept. 18 - Vienna (B,D)
AM: St. Stephen Cathedral
Visit of St. Stephen Cathedral and Divine Liturgy in the Chapel of Our Lady of Mariapoch (original icon).
PM: Visit the Schoenbrunn Palace
Visit the former summer residence of the Imperial family with its Rococo rooms. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its gardens and park will take you into a magnificent world of Baroque culture.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant with Sister Vassa Larin of “Coffee with Sister Vassa.”
DAY 4: Wed., Sept. 19 - Vienna/Szentendre/Debrecen (B,D)
AM: Depart Vienna for the historic Serbian Orthodox walled town of Szentendre, Hungary.
PM: Walking Tour of Szentendre
This jewel of a Baroque town is located in the picturesque Danube Bend region, on the River. Szentendre. Enjoy the cobblestone streets, quaint little museums, cafes, and excellent shopping.Visit the 18th-century Baroque-Rococo Greek Orthodox Blagovestenska Church, the best known of the nine churches of Szentendre. It was built by settlers living in the town’s Greek quarter.
Continue to Debrecen.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 5: Thurs., Sept. 20 - Debrecen/Hajdudorog/ Nyiregyhaza (B,D)
AM: City Tour of Debrecen
Debrecen is the second-largest city in Hungary. Due to its history it is often called “the Calvinist Rome” or the “Civis city.” Today it is also the seat of the Greek Catholic Metropolia of Hungary. Visit the Greek Catholic Cathedral and meet Metropolitan Archbishop Peter Fulop Kocsis.
PM: Proceed to Hajdudorog and the Greek Catholic Proto-Cathedral. Continue to Nyiregyhaza.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 6: Fri., Sept. 21 - Nyiregyhaza/Mishkolcz/ Červený Kláštor (B)
AM: Our friends in the Eparchy of Nyiregyhaza, where the Shrine of Our Lady of Mariapocs is located, have organized a tour of their main facilities, including their well-respected Theological Institute, cathedral and seminary. Enjoy the fabulous gift shop, renowned for its icons of Our Lady of Mariapocs.
PM: Proceed to Slovakia, via Miskolc. Pray Vespers in the cathedral of Miskolc with the local bishop. Proceed to Červený Kláštor, a small town in Slovakia’s majestic High Tatras Mountains, in the Archeparchy of Presov.
DAY 7: Sat., Sept. 22 - Červený Kláštor/L’utina Červený Kláštor (B,L,D )
AM: Celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Archeparchy of Presov at the largest Greek Catholic Marian pilgrimage in Slovakia to the shrine in L’utina.
PM: Return to Červený Kláštor for an afternoon in the High Tatras Mountains, including river rafting.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the resort.
DAY 8: Sun., Sept. 23 - Červený Kláštor/ Litmanova/Prešov/Kaluža (B,L,D)
AM: Depart for Presov, via the Marian shrine in Litmanova.
Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the Seminary in Presov.
PM: Visit Prešov
Visit the Greek Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which is the seat of the Metropolitan Slovak Greek Catholic Church. Venerate the relics of Blesseds Peter Gojdich and Basil Hopko. The church has a copy of the Shroud of Turin. Visit the Roman Catholic Co-Cathedral of St. Nicholas, which boasts a Baroque altar and a well-preserved Gothic cabinet.
Proceed to Kaluža.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the resort.
DAY 9: Mon., Sept. 24 - Kaluža/ Klokočov/ Ruska Bystrá /Michalovce/Košice/Kaluža (B,D)
AM: Visit the Marian shrine at Klokočov, and celebrate Divine Liturgy in the traditional wooden church of Ruska Bystra. Proceed to Michalovce.
PM: Depart Michalovce to visit the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Košice and the city of Kosice.
Return to Kaluža.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the resort.
DAY 10: Tues., Sept. 25 - Kaluža/Uzhorod/ Mukacevo/Uzhorod (B,L,D)
AM: Early departure for Uzhorod, Ukraine. Visit Holy Cross Cathedral and celebrate Divine Liturgy.
Veneration of relics of Blessed Theodore Romzha.
Lunch: Lunch at and visit of Blessed Theodore Romzha Seminary in Uzhorod.
PM: Depart for Mukacevo to visit the Church of the Dormition and St. Nicholas Orthodox Monastery.
Return to Uzhorod.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 11: Wed., Sept. 26 - Ukraine/Mariapocs/ Budapest (B,D)
Spend a quiet day of prayer at the Shrine of Our Lady of Mariapocs, Hungary. Celebration of Divine Liturgy. In the late afternoon, depart for Budapest.
Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
DAY 12: Thurs., Sept. 27 – Budapest (B)
AM: Sightseeing Tour of Budapest
Walk through Fishermen’s Bastion, which is part of the original fortified castle walls. Its terraces boast the best viewpoints over the river and across to Pest. Visit Matthias Church, a stand-out attraction of Castle Hill, with its brightly colored tiled roof, fantastic Neo-Gothic ornamentation, rich frescoes and a legendary Madonna statue.
PM: Explore Budapest on your own.
Optional dinner cruise on the Danube River.
DAY 13: Fri., Sept. 28 - Budapest/New York (B)
AM: Early morning transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
