Pascha

Today, we rejoice in the glorious feast of Pascha, celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John (1:1-17) begins with the powerful declaration: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." This profound truth reminds us of Christ’s eternal nature—the Word made flesh—who dwelt among us and brought light into the darkness.

During the Matins service, the faithful and clergy process solemnly around the church. At the entrance, the priest strikes the doors in the form of a Cross, and they mysteriously open from within. The entire church symbolizes Christ’s tomb—now empty—while light blazes and triumphant hymns proclaim, "Christ is Risen from the dead!" Joyful shouts of "Christ is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!" echo throughout, as the faithful venerate the Gospel book, the icon of the Resurrection, and the Cross.

Pascha is a time of immense joy, transformation, and renewal. The Resurrection is not merely a past event but a living reality that breathes new life into our hearts and minds. Through Christ’s triumph over death, we are offered the gift of eternal life and the promise of new beginnings.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the faithful bring baskets of food that were abstained from during Lent to be blessed by the priest. The joyous gathering continues as all return home to partake in the feast, embracing the blessings and light of the risen Lord. Christ’s victory is our victory—His life is our life.

Let us open our hearts and allow His radiance to transform us, living as witnesses to His Resurrection. Christ is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!
