In Mark 9:17-31, Jesus encounters a man whose son is possessed by a spirit that causes him to have seizures and foam at the mouth. The man asks Jesus for help, explaining that his disciples were unable to drive out the spirit. Jesus expresses frustration at the lack of faith among the people and heals the boy, casting out the spirit.
Afterwards, the disciples ask Jesus why they were unable to drive out the spirit. Jesus explains that it was because of their lack of faith and tells them that with faith the size of a mustard seed, they can move mountains. He also foretells his own death and resurrection, but the disciples do not understand his words.
This passage highlights the importance of faith in Jesus' teachings and demonstrates his power over evil spirits. It also foreshadows the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus will make for humanity.
