4th Sunday after Pentecost

Glory to Jesus Christ! Today's reading of the Gospel recounts an encounter between Jesus and a Roman centurion. The centurion approaches Jesus and asks him to heal his servant, who is paralyzed and suffering greatly. Jesus offers to come to the centurion's home to heal the servant, but the centurion insists that Jesus need only speak the word and the servant will be healed. Jesus is amazed at the centurion's faith and declares that he has not found such faith in all of Israel. The servant is healed at that moment, and the centurion returns home to find him well.

This passage is significant for several reasons. First, it demonstrates Jesus' power to heal even from a distance. Second, it highlights the faith of the centurion, who recognizes Jesus' authority and power. Finally, it challenges the traditional Jewish understanding of salvation, as Jesus declares that faith, rather than adherence to the law, is what saves.
