In Luke 8:41-56, we encounter two powerful stories of faith and healing. Jairus, a synagogue leader, falls at Jesus’ feet, pleading for the life of his dying daughter. On his way to Jairus’ house, Jesus is interrupted by a woman who has suffered for twelve years from a bleeding disorder. With just a touch of his cloak, she is healed. Jesus then continues to Jairus’ house, where he brings the girl back to life with a simple command.
This passage reveals the depth of faith in action. Jairus and the woman both display tremendous faith in Jesus' power, despite their desperation and fear. It teaches us that faith often involves taking risks, humbling ourselves, and reaching out in hope even when situations seem hopeless.
Faith in Jesus brings about transformative change. It reminds us to persist in our belief, to trust in God’s timing, and to know that even in the direst circumstances, His love and power can bring healing and new life.
