In today’s Gospel, John 1:43-51, we witness Jesus calling Philip and Nathanael. This passage offers profound insights as we begin the Great Fast.
Jesus finds Philip and says, “Follow me.” This powerful invitation is central to our faith, reminding us to renew our commitment to Christ during the Great Fast. Philip, excited, tells Nathanael about Jesus, and despite Nathanael’s initial skepticism, he responds to Philip’s invitation to “Come and see.”
Jesus recognizes Nathanael’s sincerity and promises, “You will see greater things than these.” This promise extends to us as well. As we journey through the Great Fast, let us open our hearts to God’s greater plans, trust in His grace, and deepen our faith through prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments.
May this season be a time of spiritual renewal and growth for each of us.
