UNIONTOWN, Pa. — The 84th annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be Sept. 1-2 at Mount St. Macrina. The theme is “Mary, Hope of All Generations.”
“For 84 years, the pilgrimage has brought together generations of young and old to pray, sing and share in the many blessings of this holy time,” said Basilian Sister Ruth Plante, provincial superior. “Come, bring your joys, sorrows, concerns and fears to her, and find peace and comfort in her loving care.”
Those who plan on attending may either camp on the racetrack, stay in pilgrim houses, which can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, or in hotels, motels or bed and breakfasts. Further information about camping and a complete list of accommodations can be found at www.sistersofstbasil.org
A light menu will be available at the lunch stand, starting on Friday evening.
In addition to the two days of scheduled services, programs and events, liturgical prayers will be held at the shrine altar on Friday evening and morning Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Sept. 3.
This year’s guest homilist is Bishop Edward C. Malesic of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He will preach at the 4 p.m. Divine Liturgy on Sunday.
Bishop Malesic is a member of the board of governors of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference. He also serves on the boards of St. Vincent Seminary and St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and on the executive committee of Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania.
Several Divine Liturgies are planned for the weekend, along with Matins, Vespers, the sacrament of reconciliation, activities for teens and children, and other services in honor of the Mother of God.
The pilgrimage is the oldest and largest Byzantine Catholic pilgrimage in the country.
The Basilian Sisters and a number of volunteers will continue to prepare the grounds for the pilgrimage Aug. 18. Contact Sister Joanne Lickvar at (724) 438-8644 to volunteer.
