SOLON, Ohio — As a service to the local community, St. John Parish rents its meeting facility for a nominal fee to three Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups weekly.
A small “Joe and Charlie tapes” group meets Mondays at 7 p.m., followed by the “Crossroads” group meeting at 8:30 p.m. Crossroads member Al said the group of about 40-50 people has been meeting there for about three years.
“We’re grateful to have the place; we’re very happy here,” said group secretary Megan.
Another AA group, “Birds of a Feather,” meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. Its secretary, Michele, said the group of about 50 people has been at St. John’s for about two years. “We love it!” she said.
Birds of a Feather member Jeff said he appreciates the accessibility of the building. “There are no steps and parking is right here (close to the entrance),” he said, as some group members are experiencing the physical limitations of aging.
The residential neighborhood also provides members with greater privacy and anonymity than the group’s previous meeting location.
Michele suggested anyone interested in attending an AA meeting call (216) 241-7387 for information on the Solon groups or for a local meeting place and time. St. John Parish is located at 36125 Aurora Road.
