The Ohio House of Representatives approved Senate Joint Resolution 2 (SJR2) May 11, 2023. SJR2 proposes a special election in August 2023 for Ohio voters to determine constitutional standards, requiring over 60% of the electorate's approval for a constitutional amendment to pass. The measure passed in the House with a vote of 62-37. The Ohio Senate passed this resolution last month. Currently, only a simple majority is needed to amend Ohio’s Constitution, thereby making it easier to pass legislation such as the abortion expansion amendment. Every parish in Ohio is asked to unite in prayer, distribute educational materials, and encourage voter registration to Vote YES during the August Special Election and NO on the abortion expansion amendment. Every parishioner in the Eparchy is encouraged to also pray for the defeat of this ballot initiative in Ohio. The full text of the ballot measure is available here. See below for a translation. |
