CHICAGO — A new nonprofit organization, called Byzantinos, in cooperation with Sts. Cyril and Methodius Choir of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Kosice, Slovakia, has released a new one-hour recording of traditional Ruthenian Christmas carols.
The 28 hymns are sung in Old Church Slavonic and Slovak; the recordings also include traditional Christmas wishes in Rusyn.
The recording will be available on all popular music streaming services, such as Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play Music, Deezer, and YouTube Music, as of Dec. 5.
The cost of the full download is $10.99.
Byzantinos, led by Father Jaroslav Girovsky, is a nonprofit organization, connecting people with a positive attitude toward the Byzantine Catholic Church, especially in the Kosice region of Slovakia, and with an interest in producing media content.
Byzantinos wants to share the Gospel message, spread Christian values, and showcase Byzantine art by creating videos, documentaries and musical recordings.
Sts. Cyril and Methodius Choir of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Kosice focuses on providing the liturgical music for various celebrations of the Byzantine Catholic Church in Slovakia and performs at cultural and spiritual events throughout Europe.
The choir has a rich history of performing at many international festivals and concerts. It is among the most prominent choirs of its genre in Slovakia.
