The St. Philomena Mother/Daughter Retreat took place in Maria Stein, Ohio July 26-28. Thirty participants from 4 states gathered to learn about authentic Catholic femininity and to spend time as moms and daughters growing closer to each other and to Christ. Based on biblical wisdom, Catholic teaching, and Pope St. JPII’s Theology of the Body, the retreat offers a whole person approach celebrating and educating on the changes happening to the body, mind, spirit, and social aspects of young women ages 11-14. Kris Forbes, the Director of the retreat and parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Byzantine Church in Gilbert, AZ said, “The retreat started in Arizona over 15 years ago, and we have been delighted to be invited to Ohio to share this ministry for the past 2 years. We hope to be back next summer.” Participants have expressed they love the one-on-one time and leave with a renewed understanding of the gift and dignity of being women.
