CHICAGO — The Eparchy of Parma’s 2019 “I Believe” Stewardship Appeal has raised 25 percent more at its halfway point this year compared with last year.
In 2018, the appeal had raised $91,458 by the end of January. This year, the campaign has raised $122,487, as of Jan. 7. Donors can still give to the campaign, whose “I Believe” theme is linked with a yearlong, eparchy-wide adult faith education program, until June 30.
Despite the increase in the funds raised, the amount represents only 49 percent of the campaign goal, which was increased this year to $250,000, from $190,000 in 2018; the new goal reflects the increased financial needs of the eparchy.
Stewardship Appeal coordinator John J. Popp said he is hopeful the new goal will be reached. As of Jan. 7, pledges were at $131,417, also 25 percent more than pledges made by the same time last year.
Several parishes have raised more than half of their goal so far: the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Parma, Ohio; St. Nicholas Parish, Munster, Ind.; St. Stephen Parish, Allen Park, Michigan; St. Michael Parish, Flushing, Michigan; St. Basil Parish, Sterling Heights, Michigan; St. John the Baptist Parish, Minneapolis; St. Joseph Parish, Brecksville, Ohio; Holy Spirit Parish, Parma; St. Michael Parish, Oregon, Ohio; St. John Chrysostom Parish, Columbus, Ohio; and St. Luke Parish, Sugar Creek, Missouri. St. Joseph Parish raised the most funds to date, $13,973, followed by the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, $10,346.
Of the total amount raised by Jan. 7, $6,054.16 was donated by individuals and organizations that are not affiliated with a parish.
Individuals are asked to send their donations to the chancery: Stewardship Appeal, 5000 Rockside Road, Suite 310, Independence OH 44131.
